This week, we’re learning about Native Americans, Christopher Columbus, counting by 2’s, 3’s, what mammals are, etc. I love learning about Native Americans so we’re spending some extra time on that! Check out what we’re doing this week!
Morning Time
The kids listen to their CSH cd as they eat breakfast. It’s one of the few times they’re all sitting still and they seem to absorb it best then! We review everything we learned verbally every morning. I pause to see if they can fill in the answers/ rest of the sentence!
CSH Blog
From the Catholic Schoolhouse blog, I printed off the Saint Kateri Fun Pack and spread that out so my kids are doing 1 page per day. The toddler enjoys coloring her own Kateri too and then I put it up on our Catholic Schoolhouse learning station (pictures to come soon)!
Play
We played hide n seek inside on a rainy day and the person who was “it” counted by 2’s and 3’s!
Watch
We’re watching this video of Christopher Columbus. It’s long, but a little every day and we can get through it in a week!
Craft
We will be doing the animal lap book through the CSH blog
Totem Poles: We’re making these totem poles and we watched 2 short youtube videos ( 1 and 2) about how (and how long!) totem poles are made
Loom Weaving: We’re going to try out hand at doing loom weaving like Native Americans. I bought these looms, but you could easily DIY your own with cardboard or sticks from the backyard!
Books
I wonder why Columbus crossed the ocean and other questions about explorers. by: Rosie Greenwood
Madeleine Takes Command (great read aloud!)
You could also do the Who was/ Who is Christopher Columbus book
Extras
If you have a Native American costume or are handy enough to craft it, it would be a lot of fun to dress up like Saint Kateri and reenact her life or pretend you lived in her times!
