I’m always looking for great, new books to help me teach my kids more about the Mass. So, when I saw Katie Warner’s beautiful new picture book I Went to Mass, I wanted to read it with my kids.
My favorite thing about this book is the way it reads. My children love love love Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? (like most kids) and they took an instant like to this book as well, simply because it reads a lot like Brown Bear, Brown Bear, but with a very obvious Catholic statement… and there are no bears. 😉
The pictures are just lovely– almost peaceful, really. The images on the pages really only have one thing colored in, like when the book describes the Eucharist, that is the only thing colored. And I loved it. When my oldest reads this book to herself, the pictures already highlight the thing she’s reading about. That way, she doesn’t think that incense is something it’s not.
After we had read the book a couple of times, my four-year-old noticed the little boy peeking at the priest on the front cover and was just delighted with that image. It was so sweet! I think she may uncover more things she likes about this book in another couple of days.
Really, this is my new “go to” book to purchase for baptisms and baby showers! I hope you get the chance to read I Went to Mass someday.
